Creating a safe place to explore your story, acknowledge the impact, and navigate toward a hope-filled future.
Nathanael Reuss Counselling
Welcome.
I'm Nathanael, an empathic counsellor based in the centre of Adelaide, and additionally available nationwide for online counselling. At the heart of my practice is authentic engagement with you. Within this working relationship, trust and respect are built, providing a firm foundation for working towards your goals.
Whether you're wrestling with questions relating to meaning, struggling with the aftermath of abuse and manipulation, or trying to make sense of what happened to you, I'm here to listen, believe you, and walk alongside you as you navigate a way forward.
My Practice and Approach
My practice offers a safe place for people to explore their lives and contexts, and the profound impact these experiences have had on them. Central to everything I do is being person-centered—meeting you where you are with empathy, respect, and genuine care.
We work towards building a strong therapeutic alliance, because it's within this professional relationship that personal growth occurs.
Being person-centred has been a focus of my professional pastoral career over the last 20 years as a Christian leader and Hospital Chaplain, and it continues to inform my counselling practice today. I am a Christian who counsels in an integrative way, working under PACFA's Code of Ethics & CCAA’s Code of Ethics to operate within the worldview of each client—your beliefs, values, and perspective guide our work together.
Areas I work with…
Workplace Bullying, Harassment and Abuse
From sensing that things aren’t quite right, to worrying about the toll it’s taken on you. Counselling can validate your experience, offering a vantage point from which to journey through this difficult season together.
Single Incident PTSD, Complex PTSD & Moral Injury
Overwhelm can happen at any time. Our bodies can respond to protect us, but in the event(s) we may become stuck needing a safe place to process the trauma we’ve experienced.
Spiritual Abuse, Religious Trauma & Post-Cult Recovery
Deep harm can come from those who are supposed to offer the greatest level of care. The abuse of betrayal of trust is scandalous. Counselling can provide a safe environment where the impact can be explored and processed.
Grief, Loss & Pain
Life can take unexpected turns, upending normalcy, leaving a sense of loss and uncertainty for the future. Counselling can provide a trusted person with whom you can walk through the stages of mourning together.
Relationship counselling for Men
Whether it’s exploring your upbringing, needing assistance in expressing your emotions, or help with navigating conflict, counselling can provide space for you to work on the relationships that matter most.
Loss of Meaning & Purpose.
Sometimes the journey seems to fizzle out, leaving the present and future empty and dark. A therapeutic relationship can assist in kindling a new hope in exploring your values and setting new goals.
Nathanael is an empathic counsellor offering face to face counselling in Adelaide's heart, as well as online counselling across Australia.
As a person who has experienced and recovered from workplace Abuse and Trauma, Nathanael has developed expertise in a niche field, with an increasingly wide application across not only religious communities but secular workplaces and relationships as well.
The dynamics of power, culture and dark personalities can lead to workplaces and other social contexts, causing confusion, control and broken trust. Where safety and belonging are promised, but harm is delivered instead.
I work with adults navigating these complex situations in professional and pastoral roles, whether they're here in Adelaide or across regional and interstate Australia.
I'm also a licensed Anglican Minister, and my practice operates in a building shared with Christian organisations. I share this openly because transparency and safety matter—it empowers you to make informed choices about whether my practice feels like the right fit. For some, it offers a unique environment where faith can be explored as a resource for healing.
Outside the counselling room, Nathanael is a husband and father to two teenage daughters. Most mornings, you'll find him walking the family dog—embracing the early, quiet moments for exercise and reflection before offering himself in the service of his clients.
